Local Food Store and Café in Savonlinna
Saimaan Maku – a local food store and café will open its doors at Puistokatu 3 on March 20th. Join us to explore local food products and treats from Thursday to the weekend.
On the Spring Equinox, March 20th, we are opening a new store and café that will offer the best local food and beverages from the Saimaa region, directly from the producers.
Opening Hours:
- March 20th, Thursday – Store and café open from 10 AM to 6 PM.
- From 11 AM to 4 PM: Janhula Farm’s spelt on display.
- Tasting samples: Hake fishballs and Kalle Tervonen’s strawberry marshmallows.
- From 12 PM to 5 PM: Café Rantakivi’s Pasi will offer dandelion oil and pesto tastings.
- March 21st, Friday – Store and café open from 10 AM to 6 PM.
- From 11 AM to 4 PM: Fried vendace fish served by Jenni and Olli’s Herkut.
- After work from 4 PM to 6 PM: Celebrate the grand opening with partners and friends. Tasting samples of Vavesaari Farm’s marmalades and Päivärinne’s rye crisps.
- March 22nd, Saturday – Store and café open from 10 AM to 6 PM.
- From 11 AM to 4 PM: Fried vendace fish served by Jenni and Olli’s Herkut.
- From 11 AM to 3 PM: Maito Karelia’s dairy products on display, and Kalle Tervonen from Joensuu will showcase his “Aho” strawberry treats and honey from his organic farm.
- Makkola Organic Farm will present their grain products.
- From 12 PM to 4 PM: Grilled sausages and meat products from Paajanen’s pasture-raised meats available outside.
- Surprise music performances.
- From 11 AM to 5 PM: D.O. Saimaa, Finland’s biggest and best known designation of origin label, will be presented. Project manager Inna Kopoteva will share information about the label and the local producers behind D.O. Saimaa products.
- March 23rd, Sunday – Store and café open from 12 PM to 6 PM.
- At 2 PM: Presentation of Savonranta’s jouhikko tradition – traditional melodies from the Savonlinna region played on the jouhikko and key fiddle.
- Tasting samples of Kerimäki Fish Fillet’s hake balls, Aho’s strawberry products, and Saimaan Marja’s sparkling drinks.

In the café, we will serve Saimaan delicacies, great tea and coffee, as well as healthy homemade drinks. Our coffee comes from Kirjala Roastery in Mikkeli. Welcome to taste!
